About the Coach

Coach Shirley N. Sane

Also known as Linda Dorso Pena. Her grandparents owned their first skating rink in the 1930′s. Linda’s parents took over the rink when she was 5. That was the start of her long competitive skating and coaching career.

She was an artistic skater who found her niche in speed skating. She was a member of the first US Pan Am Team bringing home 3 medals. That same year she was a member of the US World Team and Olympic Sports Festival Team medaling at both events on flat and banked tracks. A knee injury at World’s cut her competitive years short but gave birth to her coaching career. As a speed coach she had champions in every division coaching one of the top teams in the country for over ten years earning her the USARS Coach of the Year Award.

She helped organize and coach speed clinics at the Olympic Training Center and lectured for USARS Coaching Seminars across the country. She has been testing and helping develop new skating equipment for the last 15 years. She is still a Director for youth roller hockey showing her ongoing dedication and passion for the sport of Roller Skating.

After playing Roller Derby for the 2006 season, she developed a new Passion and it is called ROLLER DERBY UNIVERSITY.
